When officers arrived, the woman initially refused them entry, but they eventually forced their way into the house. Inside, they found the body lying next to the woman’s bed in her living room.
The woman appeared unwell, fatigued, and emaciated, trembling visibly as she was questioned.
According to neighbors, she claimed she was keeping her husband’s body in the hope of his resurrection.
The couple were reportedly members of a religious sect that adhered to a strict diet, consuming only bananas and watermelons.
The woman mostly stayed indoors and had little communication with her neighbors. She and her husband did not have children, as she cited her faith as the reason for not having any.
The woman was taken to Mathare Hospital for treatment and evaluation, while her husband’s body was moved to City Mortuary, pending burial in his hometown of Nyeri.
