Tension as Mourners Reject DP Kindiki’s Speech at Burial

In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Mourners at MCA Mark Gicheru’s funeral booed and rejected Deputy President Kindiki’s condolence message, forcing it to be delivered privately.
  • Political remarks by Moses Kuria were cut short by the presiding priest to maintain decorum during the service.

A tense moment unfolded during the funeral of the late nominated MCA Mark Gicheru Wainaina in Murang’a when mourners rejected Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s condolence message.

The disruption occurred after Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata called on a representative to read the message to the grieving family and congregation.

Customarily, condolence messages from the president and deputy president are read aloud at such gatherings when they are unable to attend.

However, the crowd began booing almost immediately after the representative started reading Kindiki’s statement. Attempts to calm the mourners failed as the discontent grew louder.

“This is to the family of our departed colleague and the great people of Murang’a. Let us listen,” the representative pleaded, but the boos persisted.

Clergy moderating the service stepped in to diffuse the situation, directing that Kindiki’s message be privately delivered to the family to maintain decorum.

Sensing the charged atmosphere, Governor Kang’ata opted to hand over President William Ruto’s condolence message directly to the family without reading it, a move that was met with applause from the crowd.

Later, Moses Kuria, a senior economic advisor to the president, also faced backlash when his remarks veered into political territory.

The presiding priest interrupted his speech by leading the congregation in a worship hymn to restore order.

The event highlighted the mourners’ clear displeasure with political overtones during a solemn occasion meant to honor the late MCA.
