Mwea-East sub-county police commander, Patrick Nyaanga, confirmed the devastating incident, revealing that the man, identified as Michael Muriithi, had been in hiding since the night of the altercation that led to his wife’s death.
The victim, Jane Njoki, aged 33, fell victim to Muriithi’s machete during a heated quarrel at their residence.

Witnesses recounted that the couple began arguing shortly after Njoki had prepared dinner for their two children that fateful Saturday evening.
Despite living separately, Njoki would frequently return to the home to care for their children and provide meals.
Tragically, as Njoki was leaving her estranged husband’s compound after tending to their children, Muriithi launched a fatal attack, hacking her to death.
Following the horrific incident, Muriithi went into hiding, prompting a police search throughout the village in an attempt to locate him and ascertain the events leading up to the tragedy.
However, the following Monday morning brought the grim discovery of Muriithi’s lifeless body hanging from a tree by the roadside.
Concerns arose that he might have posed a threat to their children following his wife’s murder, intensifying efforts by the police to apprehend him.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, Kutus location chief, Nancy Gichuki, emphasized the need to combat gender-based violence and encouraged couples to resolve marital conflicts peacefully.
