Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Magistrate Kivuti was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This alarming event has left the Makadara Law Courts community in shock, underscoring the critical importance of security measures in judicial settings.

The court session was being held in a tent outside the main court buildings. After the magistrate made her ruling, the officer went behind the tent and shot her. In the ensuing chaos, other officers responded by shooting the officer, fatally injuring him.

The area has been cordoned off as investigations into the incident begin. According to police reports, the senior officer involved in the shooting was dealing with a case where his wife, accused of fraud, had her bond revoked by Magistrate Kivuti for missing court sessions due to her battle with cancer.

Following this decision, the accused contacted her husband, who arrived armed and subsequently carried out the shooting.

In a statement, the Judiciary expressed deep sadness over the incident, confirming that the magistrate had canceled the bond for an accused person who had failed to provide satisfactory reasons for missing court sessions.

The shooter, a police officer married to the accused, shot at the magistrate immediately after the decision was pronounced.

The Judiciary extended wishes for a swift recovery to Magistrate Kivuti and condolences to the family of the officer who lost his life.

They called for calm and assured all judicial officers, staff, and court users of their safety and security, announcing plans to enhance security protocols in all court premises.

This tragic event has highlighted the need for stringent security measures to ensure the safety of judicial officers and the sanctity of court proceedings.
