In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…
- Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to reveal the truth behind Mount Kenya MPs supporting Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, accusing them of betrayal.
- Gachagua warned of rising divisions in the region, with criticism directed at President Ruto and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah for their roles in the situation.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to reveal the truth behind the recent developments where 48 Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region pledged their support for Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Professor Kithure Kindiki.
Gachagua, using a Kikuyu folk tale, dismissed the MPs as traitors, likening them to gullible hyenas deceived by a cunning hare.
In the tale, the hare convinces the hyena that they will both beat their wives, but while the hyena follows through, the hare simply beats drums, fooling the hyena into thinking he did the same.
Gachagua used this analogy to suggest that the MPs had been misled and were acting out of greed, speaking during the opening of the Central Kenya ASK show at Kabiru-ini grounds in Nyeri.
The Deputy President promised to “spill the beans” when the time is right, warning that the MPs were causing unnecessary divisions in the region.

He acknowledged that while he may not be the most clever, he is not a fool, and will reveal what he knows at the appropriate time.
MPs allied to Gachagua pointed fingers at President William Ruto, urging him to control the situation or risk losing support from Mount Kenya.
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru warned, “Put a leash on your dog or forget about us.”
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah also faced criticism, with allegations that he is undermining Gachagua and fueling a regional power struggle. Kirinyaga Senator James Murango questioned why power would be taken from Gachagua, the region’s highest-ranking official, without consulting the people.
Tensions continue to rise as Gachagua and President Ruto are set to share a platform in Nyeri on Sunday, with these political divisions looming in the background.
