The ceremony is being held at Kirimunge Primary School ground, where family, friends, and fellow service members have gathered to pay their respects.
Muriithi was one of the ten military personnel who perished in the crash that occurred on April 18, 2024, in the Sindar area of Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The incident was a great loss to the Kenyan military, as it also claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla.
The other military personnel who died in the crash included Brigadier Swale Saidi, Colonel Duncan Keittany, Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe, Major George Benson Magondu (Pilot), Captain Sora Mohamed, Captain Hillary Litali, Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi, and Sergeant Rose Nyawira. Only two military officers managed to survive the crash.
