DCI Summons Rigathi Gachagua Over Assassination Attempt Allegations

In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been summoned by the DCI over his claims of multiple assassination attempts by undercover agents.
  • He alleges his food was poisoned in Kisumu on August 30 and during a meeting with Kikuyu elders.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned ousted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to clarify allegations he made regarding an assassination attempt by President William Ruto’s administration.

In a statement obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the DCI described Gachagua’s claims as serious, stressing that such remarks could not be taken lightly, especially given his position.

The summons directs Gachagua to appear at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road in Nairobi on October 22, 2024.

The letter referenced Gachagua’s public statement from a press conference on October 20, where he alleged multiple assassination attempts on his life.

He claimed that on August 30 in Kisumu, undercover agents entered his hotel room, bugged it, and attempted to poison his food. Gachagua stated, “We detected it and were able to escape the scheme.”

The DCI emphasized the gravity of the accusations, noting that due to the sensitivity of the case, the matter would be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

They assured Gachagua that his cooperation and statement were crucial for their investigation and thanked him for his prompt attention to the matter.

On October 20, shortly after being discharged from Karen Hospital, Gachagua held a televised press briefing in which he accused officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of plotting his assassination.

He recounted two incidents where he alleged his food was poisoned—once in Kisumu on August 30 and again during a meeting with Kikuyu elders, where food intended for him was also reportedly poisoned.
