Hansi Flick, renowned for leading Bayern Munich to a historic sextuple in 2020, was notably the first coach to be dismissed by the German national team in September 2023 after a series of poor results.
The 59-year-old had been seen at Barcelona matches this season, watching from the presidential box.
Speculation about his potential appointment grew after Xavi announced in January his intention to leave at the end of the season.
Although Xavi and Barcelona initially agreed in April that he would remain for another season, Laporta changed his stance and sacked the former midfield great last week.
In his parting comments, Xavi warned Flick about the challenges ahead. “It won’t be easy at all—they will suffer and they will need patience because it’s a really difficult job,” he said after winning his final match in charge against Sevilla in La Liga.
“The only thing that can save them is winning, whether they have been part of the club or not.”

Barcelona concluded the season in second place in La Liga and faced an early exit from the Champions League, being eliminated in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.
Spanish media reported that Laporta was particularly frustrated with Xavi’s comments earlier in May, where he pointed out the economic difficulties Barcelona faces in competing against Spanish champions Real Madrid and other top European clubs.
