A faction of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, led by Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, has announced that it will not join the proposed broad-based government of national unity led by Kenya Kwanza.

Addressing the press on Friday, Kalonzo firmly stated that their faction would not participate in the dialogue proposed by President William Ruto, which aims to address the country’s current tensions.

Kalonzo argued that participating in the dialogue would betray the Kenyan youth, who have recently expressed their dissatisfaction through anti-government demonstrations.

He criticized the proposed government of national unity, describing it as a betrayal of the people, especially the younger generation who have opposed the Kenya Kwanza regime’s policies, including harsh taxes, corruption, tribalism, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.

The faction also made it clear that they would distance themselves from any affiliated party members who choose to join the government-led dialogue team.

“Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity, we shall not be a party to that decision; they will be joining in their individual capacity, not on behalf of Azimio,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo emphasized that the role of the opposition is to represent the voices and needs of the people rather than those of the government.

He also expressed skepticism about the impact of a new Cabinet, suggesting that significant changes are unlikely unless the current regime considers Azimio chief Raila Odinga’s proposal for a convention to address the country’s issues.

“As long as the Kenya Kwanza regime remains in place, absolutely nothing will change. Unless the new Cabinet is preceded by a convention, not just a dialogue, there can be no meaningful engagement or transitional arrangements for a government of national unity,” he said.

This statement comes amidst reports of a division within the opposition faction, with some members reportedly interested in joining the government-led talks.
