Woman Dies Inside Police Cell In Suspected Death By Suicide
Police in Embu are currently conducting an investigation into what they have described as the death by suicide of a 24-year-old woman inside a police cell.
The deceased, identified as Natasha Ng’endo Maina, a mother of two, was being held at the Karaba police station, situated at the Embu-Kirinyaga border, when the tragic incident occurred.
According to police reports, Natasha allegedly took her own life while in custody. The news of her death has sent shockwaves through the residents of Kiandegwa village in Mwea, where she resided.
It was revealed that Natasha and her husband, Joseph Maina Ndogo, were arrested following an altercation inside a local bar, resulting in public disturbance.
Joseph explained that he was detained alongside his wife after he followed her to the bar, questioning her about consuming alcohol without his knowledge.

A heated argument reportedly ensued between the couple, prompting the bar owner to alert the authorities. Both Natasha and Joseph were then taken to the nearby Karaba police station and held separately.
Joseph expressed shock upon learning of his wife’s death while still in police custody. He suspects foul play and is calling for a thorough investigation into the matter, alleging that Natasha may have been subjected to mistreatment while in the cell.
Mwea Sub-County police commander, Crispinus Ogutu, however, has refuted claims of any physical abuse inflicted upon the deceased.
He maintains that Natasha’s death was a result of suicide, potentially influenced by alcohol consumption, as she was reportedly intoxicated at the time of her arrest.
Ogutu announced plans for a postmortem examination to be conducted on Natasha’s body as part of the ongoing investigation.
