Additionally, Mwende stated that 12 individuals were admitted with injuries, some of whom were transferred to Makindu Hospital for further treatment.
According to a police report from Salama Police Station, heavy rainfall in the area impeded efforts to extract victims from the wreckage, with four bodies immediately recovered and five others found trapped in the vehicles.
The tragic incident unfolded when the driver of a lorry bound for Mombasa veered from its lane, abruptly turning right and initiating a chain reaction involving a matatu and subsequent collision with four other vehicles.
